Minimum Vital Income in Spain
Minimum Vital Income (IMV) is the main Spanish social safety net benefit for low-income households. It covers both Spanish nationals and legal residents. The amount depends on household size and the gap between guaranteed income and actual income.

- Legal residence: at least 1 year in Spain with valid permit and municipal registration.
- Âge : 23 or over (18 or over with dependents).
- Income: below the IMV guaranteed level for your household size.
- Assets: below 10 times the annual IMV amount.
- Child supplement: additional payment per child under 18.

- Confirm your residence document and municipal registration are both current.
- Calculate your total household income from all sources.
- Apply via Mi Seguridad Social. You need a digital certificate or Cl@ve.

- DNI/NIE/TIE or passport.
- SEPE/INSS decision, application receipt or expediente number.
- Work history report (vida laboral), contribution days, income documents and bank details.
Deadlines and risk
- Applying with an expired residence permit: IMV will be refused.
- Undeclared income counted by INSS: discrepancy leads to document requests or refusal.
- Household member at same address not included: their income still counts.
- Applying before 12 months of residence: early application will be refused.
- Missing a document request deadline: application suspended automatically.
