Recalled Baby Formula in Spain: How to Get a Full Refund (2026 Recall)
Between December 2025 and February 2026, Nestlé, Danone and other makers pulled infant-formula batches across Spain and Europe after a contamination alert (cereulide from a shared ARA oil). If you bought an affected tin, you are entitled to a full refund — from the shop or straight from the manufacturer, usually even without the receipt. Here are the affected brands, the official routes, your legal rights, and a free tool that drafts the refund demand for you in minutes.
What happened: the 2026 cereulide recall
A single global supplier of ARA oil (an ingredient added to infant formula) was linked to possible contamination with cereulide, a heat-stable toxin produced by Bacillus cereus. Because the same oil reached many brands, makers ran preventive recalls across roughly 25+ countries between December 2025 and February 2026.
In Spain, AESAN (the food-safety agency) issued six alerts and updates. The Ministry of Health closed its follow-up on 25 June 2026, reporting 59 mild gastroenteritis cases (median age 4 months) and 15 short hospitalisations, all discharged. The recall was preventive — but that does not change your right to your money back.
Which brands and products were recalled
The affected products in Spain, by maker:
- Nestlé (alert ES2025/723): Alfamino, Alfamino Junior, NAN AR, NAN Total Confort 1 and 2, NAN Optipro 1, NAN SupremePro 1 and 2, Nativa 1, Nidina 1, Nidina Confort Digest.
- Danone (alert ES2026/043): Almirón Advance 1 and 2, Almirón Profutura 1 and 2, Almirón AR 2, Blédina 1 — specific formats and expiry dates. In Spain, Aptamil is sold as Almirón.
- Damira Natur 1 and 2 (Lactalis brand, alert ES2026/039) and Babybio Caprea 1 / Optima 1 (alert ES2026/053).
- Check the exact lot and expiry against the maker’s recall page before you claim — but for a recall, refunds are usually honoured with or without the tin.

The recall and your rights are already set — NAVI only needs your name and the amount to draft the refund demand.
How to get your money back
- Contact the seller (supermarket, pharmacy or online shop) — the seller is legally responsible to you and must take the product back and refund it.
- Or go straight to the manufacturer’s recall line, which is faster in a recall: Nestlé 900 50 19 27 / consumidor@es.nestle.com; Danone/Almirón 900 181 797 / almiclub@danone.com.
- Put the demand in writing with the brand, the amount and your bank details. A written claim fixes the date and the amount — and is what you need if they stall.
- If they ignore you, escalate: the official complaint form (hoja de reclamaciones), then OMIC / your regional consumer authority.
Your legal rights (and if your baby got sick)
- A recalled, unsafe formula is by law non-conforming. Under the legal guarantee of conformity (arts. 114–127 of the Spanish consumer act, TRLGDCU) you can demand replacement or a full refund.
- You can claim from whoever sold it, regardless of channel — and art. 125 lets you claim directly against the maker when going to the shop is impractical, which is exactly why Nestlé and Danone opened refund lines.
- If a child fell ill, that is a separate product-liability claim (arts. 128–149): the producer is strictly liable for the harm. Keep medical records; the deadline is 3 years from when you knew of the damage.
- Refunds in a recall are typically paid with or without a receipt — a photo of the tin’s lot and expiry, or a bank/card statement, is usually enough.
Was Similac, Alpro or SMA affected?
Similac (Abbott) was not part of the 2026 cereulide recall. The well-known Similac recall was a different, 2022 event in the United States (Cronobacter). Alpro is a plant-based drink, not infant formula, and was not recalled. SMA (Nestlé) was recalled in the UK, not through the Spanish AESAN alerts.
If your formula is on the recall list above — or is defective for any other reason — you can still claim a full refund. NAVI drafts the demand for you below.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need the receipt to get a refund?
Usually no. In a recall, makers and shops normally refund with a photo of the tin’s lot and expiry, or a bank/card statement. The legal guarantee does not depend on you keeping the receipt.
The shop says to call the manufacturer. Is that right?
The seller is legally responsible to you and can refund. But in a recall the manufacturer’s line is often faster — Nestlé 900 50 19 27, Danone/Almirón 900 181 797 — and art. 125 TRLGDCU lets you claim directly against the maker.
How much can I get back?
The full price you paid for the affected tins. If your baby was harmed, a separate product-liability claim can cover damages (medical costs and more).
Was Similac or Alpro recalled in Spain in 2026?
No. Similac’s recall was a separate 2022 US event; Alpro is a plant-based drink, not infant formula. Neither was in the 2026 Spanish cereulide alerts.
The recall was “preventive” — can I still claim?
Yes. A preventive recall of an unsafe product still makes it non-conforming, so your right to a replacement or refund stands.
