- Valid residence document: permit must be current and valid at the time of application.
- Continuous residence: at least 12 months legally in Spain before the application date.
- Municipal registration: registered at a Spanish address. Registration certificate required.
- Household composition: all people registered at your address are part of your household unit.

What to do first
- Check that your residence document is valid and not expired.
- Obtain a recent municipal registration certificate. INSS requires it to confirm your address.
- Calculate 12 months of continuous residence from your first valid residence date.
- Gather income documents for all household members regardless of their nationality.
Documents and evidence
- DNI/NIE/TIE or passport.
- SEPE/INSS decision, application receipt or expediente number.
- Work history report (vida laboral), contribution days, income documents and bank details.
Deadlines and risk
- Residence permit expired at the time of application: IMV will be refused.
- Gap in legal residence: may reduce the continuity count.
- Municipal registration at a different address from actual residence: can trigger a fraud check.
- Non-EU household member without valid residence: their income counts but may create a documentation issue.
- Applying before completing 12 months of residence: early application will be refused.
